The best first bot solves a narrow set of common questions reliably and makes human help easy.
Choose a narrow first scope
Review recent conversations for repetitive, low-risk questions such as hours, locations, order-status paths, product basics, or appointment availability. Avoid sensitive advice and exceptions that require judgment.
Write answer-first responses
Give the direct answer before extra detail. Use short, unambiguous choices and one sensible next action.
We are open Monday–Saturday, 9 AM–7 PM. Would you like directions or help booking an appointment?
Ground AI-assisted answers
Supply current FAQs, policies, product information, and escalation rules. Remove outdated duplicates and specify what must not be inferred—especially pricing exceptions, refunds, availability, or sensitive advice.
Design failure and handoff paths
After an unrecognized question or low-confidence answer, acknowledge the limitation and offer a person. Pass history, detected topic, and customer context to the assigned agent. Never trap someone in a repeating menu.
Test before publishing
Test expected wording, spelling errors, mixed-language messages, unsupported requests, agent handoff, opt-out, and returning users. Review unresolved conversations weekly.
